The reward for living high on the hog at the taxpayers’ expense: a place in the Lords.

Former Tory MP and Minister Viscount Hogg, who once claimed £2k of MP’s expenses to clean the moat and employ a mole catcher on his country estate has been rewarded with inclusion in the list of 45 new peers announced by David Cameron.

The list includes 26 former Tory MPS as well as a rogues’ gallery of bankers and industrialists who have donated millions of pounds to the Conservative party.   Meanwhile, according to figures from the charity Shelter,  829 families in Hertfordshire will be free from the anxiety caused by moles on their property because they are homeless.
