The myth of Labour economic performance

In 1979-1997 the Conservatives ran 18 structural budget deficits in 18 years (source IMF).  This was during the period of Thatcher’s economic ‘miracle’.  Hardly a case of fixing the roof when the sun was shining and what improvements did we see in travel, healthcare, education in this period?  In contrast Labour in 2007 had a structural deficit of only -0.4% and this had been reduced by 82% over the previous 10 years whilst fixing the crumbling estate the incompetent Tories had handed us.  Why the hell didn’t we keeping hammering these facts home over the past 5 years?.
