Hospitals plea to PM as Labour demands local resignations over care centres betrayal
Broxbourne Labour Party today stepped up the fight to save local NHS hospitals in Enfield, Cheshunt and Hertford by asking the Prime Minister to intervene. At the same time, the opposition group called for the resignation of four senior Conservative councillors for their hypocrisy over the urgent care centre closure which was secretly supported by all the Tory representatives on the NHS evaluation panel. Councillor Malcolm Aitken (Labour, Waltham Cross) said: "Our MP asked people to write to the chair of the PCT but sadly that had no effect. That is why we are now taking the matter all the way to the Prime Minister, to let David Cameron know how horrified local residents are at the triple closure of Cheshunt and Hertford urgent care centres and Chase Farm A&E. "When the care centres closure was raised in parliament last month, the health minister undermined Broxbourne's MP by pointing out that the local evaluation panel had unanimously voted to close them. The councillors on the panel have betrayed our borough. The Conservatives boasted in public of their campaign to save the hospitals whilst voting in private to axe them. "All the Conservative representatives on the evaluation panel have betrayed the trust of local people. The government needs to know that these councillors do not truly represent the residents of this borough. We call on the councillors to renounce their actions and resign their health and scrutiny responsibilities, before it's too late. "These NHS cuts are about more than money - for residents of this borough, they are now a matter of life and death."
