Labour takes the fight to the Tories as Waltham Cross councillor stands in Theobalds ward
Broxbourne Labour Party today announced that Councillor Richard Greenhill has chosen to stand in Theobalds ward in the 5 May borough elections, neighbouring his current ward of Waltham Cross. Opposition leader Councillor Michael Watson (Labour, Waltham Cross) said: "I'm delighted that Richard Greenhill has chosen to lead the way, campaigning to win back parts of the borough which the Conservatives have taken for granted. With local services under threat and the Tories betraying the people they promised to protect, we need more Labour councillors to speak up for local people and stand up to those in power. A stronger opposition voice will help put local residents' interests first." Deputy opposition leader Councillor Greenhill responded: "With coalition support falling in the polls and the Conservative boundary changes soon to merge much of Theobalds ward into Waltham Cross, I am delighted to be standing to increase opposition representation at a time when people need a strong local voice more than ever. "As one of only three Labour councillors in the borough, I've seen first hand just how important it is that local people have a strong opposition to defend them from the vested interests that have kept the Tories in power here for nearly 40 years. "As a local councillor, I have campaigned for more support for Chase Farm and Cheshunt hospitals, town centre shopping, Cedars Park and the run-down Theobalds Grove bridge. I've taken the council to the district auditor over unlawful councillor payments and hit out at wasteful spending because local residents deserve better." Labour campaigner Neil Harvey is standing as Labour's candidate for Waltham Cross.
