Shock at Tory betrayal over Cheshunt Urgent Care Centre

Labour's local opposition leader has spoken of his shock at the news that local Conservative councillors voted to close the Cheshunt and Hertford Urgent Care Centres.

Responding to the news that local Tories had been members of the NHS evaluation panel which unanimously voted to close the vital hospital services, opposition leader Councillor Michael Watson (Labour, Waltham Cross) said:

"As I said at the public meeting, the fight to retain the present urgent care service requires a cross-party effort to demonstrate the importance of the facility to the local community. However I am shocked to learn that Tory councillors supported the decision to downgrade the centre from the start. Instead of fighting for the needs of their residents, they have voted to end the Urgent Care Centre. It is difficult to present a united cross-party front to the PCT when Tory councillors were in support of this awful move from the outset."
