Tories defy council policies to grant planning permission for pool demolition

Conservative councillors have voted to approve planning permission for demolition of the Hoddesdon Open Air Pool, despite planning policies intended to protect leisure facilities and heritage sites.

Labour councillors slammed the proposal at the council's planning committee.

Speaking afterwards, Councillor Richard Greenhill said:

"By ignoring the council's own planning policies and the national safeguards for leisure sites, the Conservatives have made a mockery of the planning process and exposed their willingness to betray the people they claim to represent. We're now dependent on Eric Pickles intervening as the last chance to save this historic site."
