Labour fights to keep Hospital Shuttle Bus

Labour successfully argued to keep the council's Hospital Shuttle Bus service operational after a report to February's Policy and Resources Committee threatened to merge the service with other services, ending its life as a dedicated hospital transport service.

Speaking at the meeting, Councillor Michael Watson, Leader of the Opposition, argued that the proposals failed to adequately take into account the social benefits provided by the service, and sought the easy option of merging the service instead of putting together a plan to increase usage.

It was agreed by the committee to reject with the report and keep the bus running for another year.

Speaking after the decision, Councillor Watson said:

"I was stunned to see that the report was willing to end this service in its current form without any exploration of other options. I know that the bus service provides huge assistance to residents around the borough, and it is only right that it continues to be available to them in the future."
