Printworks nightmare
Residents and Labour councillors in Waltham Cross have united to condemn light pollution from the massive printworks being built on the Park Plaza site. Opposition leader Cllr Alan McCole said: "We opposed the printworks because we knew residents would suffer from this development. Already the massive building dominates the skyline for miles, ruining the green belt. Even before the factory is running, floodlights are dazzling residents who have to live next to this monstrosity. Residents in Teresa Gardens are already also being affected by smoke coming from the site. Sadly, our worst fears are coming true." Cllr Malcolm Aitken (Lab, Waltham Cross) added: "We are working with local people to do all we can. I have asked the council to take enforcement action to stop this permanent glare. I remain deeply angry at the way Broxbourne Council allowed this industrial development to go ahead in a residential area." Local resident and campaigner Steve Mendrys said: "Why do we need it rubbed in our faces with all these lights? It's like daylight in our bedroom at night. The lights are on 24 hours a day. It is aggravation all round."
