Local spokesman tells Chancellor "I want to see every new baby with a trust fund"
Local parliamentary spokesman Jamie Bolden met with Labour Chancellor Gordon Brown to discuss the importance of the Child Trust Fund which benefits thousands of families in Broxbourne. Broxbourne Labour's Jamie Bolden said: "From this week, 1,438 parents in Broxbourne will receive a voucher for at least £250 from the Labour government to open a Child Trust Fund for their child, for example in their local bank or building society. The vouchers will be sent out to parents of children born on or after 1 September 2002. "Once the account is opened, families will be able to make additional payments into their child's account year after year. When their child is seven, the government will add another payment to the growing account. All money in the account will be tax free. "I want to make sure that every new parent knows about the Child Trust Fund and gets the help they need to decide how best to invest this money for their children. I'll be launching an information campaign to make sure no one in Broxbourne misses out." Gordon Brown said: "The Child Trust Fund will make a real difference to families in Broxbourne. "Labour created the Child Trust Fund because we believe every child should have the best possible start in life. "The Child Trust Fund will benefit every new born child, with more to those who need help the most. With the Child Trust Fund, when children are 18 they will have savings with interest built up over two decades. These savings will make a real difference to thousands of young people in Broxbourne. "I know that Jamie Bolden is working hard to build a better future for children in Broxbourne. Together we will be working on an agenda for parents and children that makes work pay, provides quality childcare and gives children a stake in the future of the country."
