Waltham Cross residents say no to Wapping site
Labour have representatives met with local residents concerned about the proposed relocation of Rupert Murdoch's Wapping printing site from Wapping to Waltham Cross. The Park Plaza site is adjacent to Park Lane, Hurst Drive and Teresa Gardens in the heart of Waltham Cross. Waltham Cross Labour councillor Malcolm Aitken said: "Local residents have approached me very concerned at what they fear will be a monstrosity operating on their doorstep. They are worried at the noise, congestion and pollution that this might bring to their streets, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is not clear whether any jobs created will go to local people. As a member of the planning committee, I am anxious that other members may speak up for Rupert Murdoch, but I am determined that both sides are given a fair hearing and so I shall be voicing the concerns of Waltham Cross residents." Labour's prospective parliamentary candidate Jamie Bolden also spoke to the residents and gave them his backing. He said: "We have already seen, on other sites, how reckless planning permission can blight the lives of local people and residents have reported how the value of their homes can be decimated. I am determined to prevent this from happening here and am backing the residents of Waltham Cross."
