Broxbourne members remember the victims of the Holocaust

Members of Broxbourne CLP attended the Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony in the grounds of Lowewood Museum this afternoon. The photo shows the secretary laying a memorial stone.

There was a beautiful programme of readings and singing by councillors and by pupils of St. Catherine’s Primary School and Robert Barclay Academy.

Shoes were collected for charity and to remind us of the heart-breaking piles of shoes that were left after Jewish and other victims were taken off to the gas chambers.

The memorial stones are a Jewish tradition of leaving a stone when you visit a grave rather than flowers.  Speakers asked us to remember the victims of the Holocaust and of other wars. We must speak out when such crimes are committed in our own time.
