Broxbourne CLP’s motion on the refugee crisis was included in a Conference debate today!

Democracy is truly in action at the Labour Party Conference. At a recent All Members Meeting of Broxbourne CLP, we voted to submit the following motion to the Conference in Brighton:

In the light of the escalating migrant crisis, this conference believes that we should be more constructive in working with our European partners to help alleviate the suffering and degrading treatment of people seeking refuge from war-torn regions.

To our delight our motion was accepted and went through to a ballot where the refugee crisis was one of the CLP motions accepted to go through to Conference. Our wording was accepted in full.

Our delegate who is at the conference, Selina, attended a compositing meeting where all similar motions were thrashed through and final wording agreed. The motion was debated at the Conference this morning and our part of the motion was read out in full by Simon Darvill of Young Labour. The motion was passed unanimously at the end of the session.

In this way, Labour Party members know that our voices were heard at our Conference, and that our party has a humane attitude to the refugee crisis, in line with British values.
